A Sink — Dream Meaning
A sink is where we wash away the day's dirt, rinse what we have used and start again. It sits at the heart of the home, so in dreams it often reflects cleansing, letting go, and what is building up in your emotional life.
Washing your hands or face suggests a wish to feel clean or start fresh, sometimes linked to guilt or wanting to wash your hands of a situation. Scrubbing again and again may point to a worry that will not be rinsed away.
A sink full of dirty dishes can mirror chores, responsibilities or unresolved issues piling up. The feeling that you will never catch up is often part of this image.
A blocked or overflowing sink may point to emotions that have nowhere to go, or small problems that have backed up into a bigger one; compare with a flood.
Water draining away reflects release, letting go of something. A smooth, easy drain can feel very satisfying on waking.
A dry sink or no water may suggest feeling drained or unable to cleanse yourself of a worry, or that a source of support has run low.
A cracked sink can point to something in your home life that needs attention.
Something unexpected in the sink, such as a creature, a ring or a strange liquid, often asks you to look at what is going down the drain in your life: a talent, a feeling, a habit.
Filling the sink for someone else, perhaps a baby or a parent, links to caring roles and the quiet daily work of looking after others.
Water has been tied to purification in many traditions, from baptism to ritual washing, and a plain kitchen sink is a modest, everyday version of that idea.
